The Leica M10-D, announced in 2018, is the screen-free M10: it takes the discreet M10-P and removes the rear LCD entirely, so you shoot with the rangefinder, the shutter, and the aperture, with nothing to chimp on. In place of the screen is a dial whose inner ring sets exposure compensation and whose outer ring switches the camera off, on, or on with Wi-Fi. The fold-out lever on the back is not a film advance, since the camera is digital; it is an integrated thumb rest for one-handed handling. It uses the same 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor and Maestro II processor as the M10 and M10-P and saves DNG or JPEG. Unlike the earlier screen-free M-D (Typ 262), it adds built-in Wi-Fi and pairs with the Leica FOTOS app, so you can review, transfer, and remotely control the camera from a phone. It is the M10-generation successor to the M-D (Typ 262).

Frequently Asked Questions

What accessories add the most value to a used Leica M10-D?

Condition is the main driver of value; accessories add to it. The ones that matter most are the pricier separate pieces: on digital bodies the EVF and the original batteries and charger. For collectible film and screw-mount bodies, original matching-number accessories and the correct period Leica case carry real weight, and special or limited editions must keep their certificate of authenticity and any numbered or branded extras, or they sell far closer to a standard body. The original box, papers, manual, and receipt are useful provenance but are one component rather than the main draw. A complete original outfit will out-price a body-only listing in the same condition.

Can a used Leica M10-D still be serviced, and does it come with a warranty?

Usually yes. Leica services many current and recent models, and independent specialists handle older and discontinued bodies, including the clean-lube-adjust (CLA) that vintage cameras often need. Parts can be limited on older or electronic models, so budget for a possible service. On warranty: a used Leica M10-D from a dealer such as KEH, MPB, or an authorized Leica dealer typically carries a limited warranty, often 60 to 180 days, while private and most eBay sales are sold as-is, so test everything on arrival and factor a CLA into the price.

Is the lever on the Leica M10-D a real film advance?

No. The M10-D is a digital camera, so the fold-out lever on the back does not advance film; it is an integrated thumb rest shaped like a classic advance lever, there to improve grip and one-handed handling. The film-camera feel is the point of the M10-D: with no rear LCD you set exposure and shoot by feel, the way you would with a film M, and the lever completes that experience.

How does the M10-D differ from the M-D (Typ 262) and the standard M10?

Against the standard M10 and M10-P, the M10-D removes the rear LCD and replaces the menu with a back dial for exposure compensation and power, while keeping the same 24MP sensor, Maestro II processor, and near-silent M10-P shutter. Against the older screen-free M-D (Typ 262), the M10-D is a full generation newer: it is quieter, it can save JPEG as well as DNG, and, most importantly, it adds built-in Wi-Fi and the Leica FOTOS app, so you can review images, change settings, and shoot remotely from a phone. The M-D 262 had no screen and no app at all, so it was a stricter no-review experience.
