The Leicaflex (1964-1968), known retrospectively as the Leicaflex Standard, was Leica’s first SLR and its late answer to the rise of the Japanese reflex. Hand-built in Wetzlar and fully mechanical, it metered with an external, non-TTL CdS cell on the front of the pentaprism that reads roughly a 90mm angle of view, so exposures with wide or long lenses take judgment. The finder is a bright microprism screen with no split-image patch, and the mechanically timed focal-plane shutter runs to 1/2000s plus Bulb with X-sync at 1/100. It takes 1-cam R-bayonet lenses; later 2-cam and 3-cam lenses also mount. It is dense and over-engineered even by Leica standards, and the only Leicaflex with the classic non-TTL setup.
