The Leica M4-P, produced from 1981 to 1987, refined the M4-2 with a six-frameline rangefinder (28/35/50/75/90/135mm), the layout that became standard on every M body since. Roughly 25,000 units were produced in Canada. The M4-P retains the M4-2's hot shoe and motor-drive coupling and is widely considered the most practical all-mechanical M for working photographers. On the used market it sits between the M4-2 and the M6 in both feature set and price.

Usually yes. Leica services many current and recent models, and independent specialists handle older and discontinued bodies, including the clean-lube-adjust (CLA) that vintage cameras often need. Parts can be limited on older or electronic models, so budget for a possible service and factor a CLA into the price on a body that has not been serviced recently.
