The Leica M (Typ 240), announced in 2012 and shipping from 2013, was the first CMOS digital M and the first digital M to offer live view and video. Its 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor (the Leica Max CMOS) and thicker body marked a clear break from the CCD M9. The M240 introduced features that became standard on later Ms: an external EVF (the EVF2), native R-lens support via the R-Adapter M, a higher-resolution 3-inch screen, and a larger battery. So a digital a la carte body is set apart by its leather and engraving rather than by finish or finder, and it carries a smaller, more taste-dependent premium than a film a la carte camera.
