The Leica M (Typ 262), released in 2015, is a stripped-down M240. It removes live view, video, and external EVF support, returning to a stills-only rangefinder. It keeps the same 24MP Leica Max CMOS sensor and Maestro processor as the M240, but swaps the brass top plate for aluminum, which drops the weight to about 600g (versus about 680g), and Leica fitted a quieter shutter-cocking mechanism. It launched at $5,195, well below the M240 and M-P. On the used market the M262 appeals to photographers who want a digital M without the live-view and video features added in the M240.
