The Leica M9, released in 2009, was the first full-frame digital M-mount rangefinder and is widely considered the high-water mark of the CCD era. Its 18MP Kodak CCD sensor produces a distinctive, film-like rendering that many photographers still prefer to modern CMOS output. The M9's CCD has a known sensor-corrosion issue, since addressed via Leica replacement programs. On the used market the M9 is the most sought-after digital M for its rendering and its place in M-system history.
